Can’t wrap your head around Search Engine Optimization?
Here are the three things you need to know:

  1. Your Website Needs to be Easy to Find and Process
  1. You Need to be Utilizing your Keywords Effectively
  1. You Need to get Relevant Websites to Link to Your Site

Your Website Needs to be Easy to Find and Process
Search engines need to be able to pick up your site.
This aspect of an SEO campaign is the easiest to manage. Just make sure that you keep your URLs relatively short, make good use of your page redirection, don’t use images when you should be using text, and don’t rely too heavily on Flash or Java Script. Use Google Webmaster Tools to ensure that you are indexed by Google.

You Need to be Utilizing your Keywords Effectively
Keywords are important because they tell search engines what your website is about.
Your most relevant keywords need to be in the most appropriate places. For your page, that will mean the title tag, the meta description tag, the headline tags, and the basic body copy. The earlier you place keywords in your text, the more likely they are to get picked up. Also make sure that multiple keywords are placed close together. Off your page, make sure that the anchor texts that link to your site contain your keywords. Also know that having keywords in your domain name goes a long way to upping your page ranking.

You Need to Get Relevant Websites to Link to Your Site
Inbound links tell search engines that your page is important.
This is exponentially the most impactful aspect of an SEO campaign. It is how Google keeps its search results relevant, and why it is the king of search today. Google monitors this process very, very carefully so be wary in how you approach this. You will excel in this aspect of search if you play by the rules. Rather than trying to hack the linking process, focus on getting your content picked up by other websites who have a genuine interest in what you are writing. The growth will be slow, but it will be organic…and worth it.

Expect a timeframe of between 6 months to 1 year before you see results.
